In addition to determining the rates and risks of communicable diseases, ID epidemiologists implement and measure interventions at the individual and community level to: prevent infection (primary prevention) and, among infected people, prevent infection. disease spread (secondary prevention) or Death and disability associated with infectious diseases (tertiary prevention). Infectious diseases remain unique among the leading necessary causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide.
